His form of engraving is essentially model work into the surface, by hand
with graver, punch or wheel, using traditional skills built up over four
generations of his family. Work Undertaken: Principally the engraving of
gold signets and those that are set with stones.
Capability of working allows a wide variety
of production which includes engraving of the simplest hand stamp through to
the most complex exhibition quality object d'art., Fob and desk, seals,
cufflinks, pendants, moulds and dies. He works in a wide variety of gold
alloys, cornelian, bloodstone. onyx, saronyx, rock crystal, amethyst and
lapis.
The range is extensive - platinum, silver
and the base metals. His subjects are largely armorial, Crests, ribbons and
mottoes, Coats of Arms, Monograms and Logos - Family, Corporate or Clan.
Specialising in the engraving of signets for sealing, where the work is
reversed to give a positive impression when impressed into wax is well
established . For many a man it may be the only piece of jewellery he will
wear throughout his lifetime.
Engraving produced specifically for the
individual, not cloned by mass production. To many a family the Hammonds
have worked for three or four generations.
