After twenty years in the trade
training initially as a jeweller and working in both the UK and Australia
and New Zealand Wayne trained as a silversmith. He gained a BA
and a Masters degree specializing in the Japanese metal
technique of Mokume Gane. To perfect his skills in this field he spent
two years studying in Japan with first Masonobu Kitch, Shibori master in
Nagoya and secondly with Norio Tamagawa, a Mokume Gane master in Nigata.
He has countless awards to his
credit including many 1st Prizes from the Goldsmith' Company and
British Jewllers Association. Most recent Prizes being winner for
Wilkinson Sword for HM the Queen's Golden Jubilee and Gold First Prize
Special Goldsmiths Craft Council Award.
In 2011 he won The
Balvenie Master Craft Awards in Metal, judged by Kevin Mc Cloud (Grand
Designs), and the Editor of the Sunday Telegraph. Also the Grand Prize and
First Prize in the Holloware category in the Saul Bell International Design
and Craft Awards.
Wayne divides his time with
special commissions and part time lecturing. |
