The Institute's objectives are as follows :
  • To establish and maintain the highest standards of craftsmanship.
  • To lay down distinctive classifications of members defining professional attainments and to confer on members the right to use distinctive letters (FIPG).
  • To promote standards of professional conduct by members.
  • To promote the interests of members generally.
  • To encourage or promote training for the craft of professional goldsmiths and to hold examinations for the attainment of relevant standards.
  • To publish and/or distribute literature related to the trade of professional goldsmith.
  • To establish branches or sections of the Institute for geographic or other reason.
  • To engage in any other activities consistent with these Objects.

The IPG Structure is headed by a General Committee, drawn from each craft, and provides a mechanism for all members to voice views and influence policy development. It is an autonomous body, self financing and free from all external controls.

Membership is drawn from the complete spectrum of the craft: Casters, Chasers, Designers, Enamellers, Engine, Turners, Engravers, Goldsmiths, Lapidaries, Modellers, Mounters, Polishers, Setters, Silversmiths and Smallworkers.
