Examples of work that he has undertaken
include: a Congregational Cross for Carlisle Cathedral, a Crucifix for HM
Queen Elizabeth II, a Ceremonial Cross and Rings for the Bishop of Penrith
and the Bishop of Jarrow.
Michael had a formal training at the Medway
College of Art and Design before working in London as a jeweller. After
nearly 10 years in partnership with the Internationally acclaimed
designer-silversmith Christopher Lawrence he moved north, in 1982, to set up
his own workshop in the heart of the Cumbrian countryside.
The jewellery
workshop is enclosed in the centre of a longhouse. Visitors to the gallery
can watch the various processes involved in producing fine jewellery, many
of which have remained unaltered for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.
Michael works only in precious metals - gold, platinum and silver and
currently his range of designs feature strong Celtic and organic influences,
these themes reflects his strong sense of time and place |
